Day 1. Arrival and Reykjavík City



Following your arrival is a comfortable bus transfer from the airport to your accommodation in Reykjavík. The transfer buses have Wi-Fi connection on board. Enjoy the rest of the day in Reykjavík. The capital of Iceland has great variety of things to do and see. Visit some of the popular sites in Reykjavík, such as Hallgrímskirkjan Church, the new Harpa Concert Hall or the busy Laugavegur shopping street. Various fast food and a la carte restaurants are located in downtown Reykjavík.

Day 2. Ţingvellir National Park - Geysir geothermal area - Gullfoss - Volcanic crater



Pick up your car in the morning and begin your day with the famous Golden Circle route, where some of the most precious gems of Iceland can be found. First you visit the Ţingvellir National Park, which is an UNESCO world heritage site and is full of history and natural beauty. This is the place where the Icelandic Parliament was established in 930. The Mid-Atlantic ridge runs through the national park and forms an impressive rift valley. From Ţingvellir continue to Geysir geothermal area where you explore hot springs and geysers. The most powerful, active geyser – Strokkur erupts every 8 minutes or so with such a force that the boiling water jets up to 20 meters into the air. Just a little further from the geothermal area you will find the majestic Gullfoss, also known as the Golden Waterfall – one of Iceland´s most impressive waterfalls. Before heading to your lodging for the night visit the picturesque waterfall Faxi and the impressive volcanic crater – Keriđ.

Day 3. The South Coast - Skaftafell National Park and Jökulsárlón Glacial lagoon



Today continue east and head to Eyjafjöll disctrict, which is located at the foot of the infamous Eyjafjallajökull glacier and volcano. The volcano erupted last in 2010 paralyzing the air traffic both in Europe and America. On the way stop by two stunning waterfalls – Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss. During the summer, it is possible to take a walk behing Seljalandsfoss waterfall. Near the waterfall of Skógafoss you will find a museum called Skógasafn. As you continue east make couple of detours and visit Sólheimajökull glacier, Dyrhólaey nature reserve and the spectacular black beach of Reynisdrangar, where large basalt columns seem to rise from the ocean. After visiting the charming town of Vík continue across the Mýrdalssandur floodplains and Eldraun, the largest lava field ever to flow on Earth in a historical time until you reach Kirkjubćjarklaustur village. At Kirkjubćjarklaustur see the natural monument called Kirkjugólfiđ (The Church Floor), columnar basalt, shaped and eroded by water and wind, that looks like a man made floor. Few km west from Kirkjubćjarklaustur you will find the Fjađrárgljúfur, a narrow and stunning canyon with a visit. Continue east to Skaftafell National park. Skaftafell is situated at the foot of Europe´s largest glacier – Vatnajökull and is truly a nature lover´s paradise. The elegant Svartifoss waterfall is located at the Skaftafell National Park. The park offers various hiking trails as well as guided glacier hikes are available during summer time. Next continue to Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, where large icebergs that have broken off the Breiđmerkurjökull glacier float in the deep blue water of the lagoon. Fun amphibian boat cruises among the icebergs are available during summer time. Return back to Kirkjubćjarklaustur for overnight stay.

Day 4. Leisurely day and back to Reykjavík



Take the same route back towards Reykjavík. If there are any sights you might want to revisit or maybe some sights that you didn´t visit on the way out, this is the perfect chance to visit them. On the way back you will cross the Hellisheiđi plateau, where you can visit the Hellisheiđi Geothermal Power plant and learn how the natural hot water and steam is used for generating the electricity. Return to Reykjavik and drop off the car.

Day 5. Departure



Transfer from your accommodation to the airport by comfortable Wi-Fi connected bus. If you have an afternoon flight, you will have time to visit any of the Reykjavík´s sites you might have missed or visit the famous Blue Lagoon.

We are arriving very early. What is the check in time?
Check in time is usually between 14:00 - 16:00 for accommodation in Iceland. The only way to secure an early check in is to book the night before as well. However if a room is ready you should be able to check in early.

Where to eat during the tour?
In the small towns around Iceland you will find restaurants, bakeries and cafes where you can get something to eat. If you are going to the highlands we recommend purchasing something to take with you as there are very limited options for meals in the remote highland areas.

Are there any hidden charges?
There are no hidden charges or fees you should be aware of. Note that fuel and meals other than breakfast are not included.

What type of car is recommended?
During summer (May - September) any type of vehicle is sufficient for this tour. In winter between mid September – mid April we recommend a 4x4 vehicle as there is a chance of some snow or ice on the road. The cars are equipped with good winter tires during winter.

Do I need an international driver’s license?
No you do not need an international drivers license but you need a valid driver’s licence, which you will have held for at least two years. Travellers from overseas will need a licence issued in their country of residence along with an English translation (where appropriate). Some form of picture Identity is required, e.g. Passport, ID card etc. A valid credit card is also required.

How far is it between gas stations?
Gas stations can be found in almost all towns around Iceland so running out of gas is not a likely scenario. However before going to the highland areas we recommend filling up the tank as there are no gas stations in the highlands.

Do hotels and guesthouses offer Wi-Fi internet connection?
Most hotels and guesthouses in Iceland do provide free access to Wi-Fi internet. Some hotels and guesthouses do charge a small fee for access to the internet.
