Eldgjá Canyon (What To See - Highlands)

Eldgjá is a very special canyon, it is a largest volcano canyon in the world and is 270 meters deep and 600 meters wide at it´s greatest. Edgjá means „fire canyon“ in Icelandic. It last erupted in 934, the lava field is believed to cover around 800 square kilometers, which makes it the most extensive lava fields on earth since the last Ice Age.
