Kerlinarfjöll or witch mountains is a range of colourful rhyolite mountains in the in interior of the Kjölur track. The highest peak reaches 1,488 meters into the sky. This is a true mountain wilderness of spectacular peaks, canyons, and hidden colourful geothermal areas. The best way to explore the area is by foot so as to experience unexpected discoveries. Some of the best views of the highland plateau are seen here due to the central location of Kerlingarfjöll and the altitude the peaks. You will find a mountain hut and a service centre here as well as a campsite. Kerligarfjöll is a must-visit place for anyone traveling over the
Kjölur highland track.
