Krýsuvík Geothermal Area (What To See - South West)

Krýsuvík geothermal area is located in Reykjanes peninsula, only around half an hour drive from town of Hafnarfjörđur. The area is very colorful – you will see a lot of bright yellow, green and red in the soil. Some of the formations found in Krýsuvík are hot springs, mud pots, solfataras and fumaroles. Next to the geothermal field of Seltún lake Grćnavatn is situated. It is a crater created by the explosions of overheated groundwater and the water of the lake is almost green. Lately the area has been very popular tourist site, so special pathways have been made. Remember that these boiling hot springs and mud pots are dangerous and always stay on a designated path.
